The Trial Chamber has approved the joinder of the two Kosovo indictments thus enabling a joint trial of the seven accused Serbian politicians and police and military generals. The first indictment, issued in May 1999, contains the names of Milan Milutinovic, Nikola Sainovic and Dragoljub Ojdanic. The second, dating from October 2003, contains charges against generals Nebojsa Pavkovic, Vladimir Lazarevic, Sreten Lukic and Vlastimir Djordjevic. Of the seven indictees, only General Djordjevic is still at large, presumed to be in Russia.

Although the two indictments were issues four and a half years apart, they are identical. Former politicians and police and military generals are charged with the deportation and forcible transfer of about 800,000 Kosovo Albanians in the first half of 1999, and with mass murder and persecution of Kosovo Albanians on political, racial and religious grounds.
